Privacy policy
This policy explains what IndieTide (indietide.com) collects, why, and the choices you have. We collect only what we need to run the launch board.
1. What we collect
When you browse. You can read IndieTide without an account. Our server may keep standard request logs (IP address, browser user agent, the page requested and the time) to run and protect the site. We don't currently use analytics or advertising trackers. If that changes, we'll update this policy first.
When you sign in with Google. Google shares your name, email address and profile picture with us. We use them to create your account and a public maker profile. We never see your Google password. Each signed-in session also stores the IP address and browser it was started from, so we can keep your account secure.
When you take part. We store the votes you cast, and everything you add to a product or profile: name, tagline, description, website, logo, screenshots, categories, a maker comment, bio and social handle.
When you join the newsletter. We store your email address, where you signed up, the exact wording you agreed to and when, and, if you leave, when you unsubscribed.
When you use the tools. The backlink checker, meta tag checker and domain authority tool fetch the address you enter. We use your IP address briefly, in memory only, to limit how often the tools can be used.
2. What is public
IndieTide is a public directory. Your maker profile (name, username, picture, bio, website and social handle), the products you submit and their vote counts are visible to everyone and may be indexed by search engines.
Your email address is never shown publicly, and nobody can see which products you voted for.
3. How we use it
- To run the launch board: accounts, voting, rankings, product pages and maker profiles.
- To check that a badge is on a maker's homepage (a daily fetch of the product's website).
- To send the weekly newsletter to people who asked for it.
- To prevent spam, vote manipulation and abuse, and to keep the service secure.
- To contact you about your account or a product you submitted, when needed.
5. Services we use
We don't sell your personal information. We share it only with services that help run the site:
- Google, for sign-in.
- Cloudflare, for DNS and for storing uploaded logos and screenshots (R2).
- Our server host, which runs the website and database.
- Open PageRank, which receives the domain you look up in the domain authority tool.
We may also disclose information when the law requires it.
6. How long we keep it
- Account, profile, products and votes: until you delete your account.
- Sign-in sessions: until you sign out or they expire.
- Newsletter: while you're subscribed. After you unsubscribe, we keep your address and the record of your consent and unsubscription so we don't email you again.
- Server logs: a short period, for security and troubleshooting.
7. Your choices and rights
- Edit your profile and products at any time while signed in.
- Unsubscribe from the newsletter with the link in any email.
- Ask for a copy of your data, a correction, or deletion of your account by emailing hello@indietide.com. Deleting your account removes your profile, products, images and votes.
Depending on where you live (for example in the EU, the UK or California), you may have further rights, including to object to processing or to complain to a data protection authority. Email us and we will respond within 30 days.
8. Security
The site is served only over HTTPS, the database is not reachable from the public internet, and access to production systems is restricted. No system is perfectly secure, so we can't guarantee absolute security.
9. Children
IndieTide is not meant for children under 16, and we don't knowingly collect their information.
10. Changes to this policy
We'll update this page when what we collect or how we use it changes, for example if we add advertising or paid features, and change the date at the top. For significant changes we'll also give notice on the site. The terms of service cover how IndieTide can be used.
11. Contact
